To Serve Man: Seva Cafe at LB’s Zephyr

March 11, 2009

sevaLast Sunday, I had the pleasure of dining at the Seva cafe, a weekly event hosted at the Zephyr vegetarian restaurant in Long Beach. “Seva” is a sanskrit term referring to “service”, and the idea is that they serve you food while you in turn serve a worthy cause. It’s an interesting setup: you order from a menu without prices and pay however much you feel like at the end, and all the profits go to charity. The vibe is awesome, and the staff is so friendly I was worried they had mistaken me for someone with money. There’s a cool tiki-torch themed piano in the corner, and since one of the staff members was having a birthday I offered to play the happy birthday song for her. Good times.

If you can make it down to Long Beach for a Sunday night and you enjoy vegetarian food, you may want to check this out.
